The events that has taken place must be understood in context with scripture as part of what God has said would happen. Like for example; scripture speaks of the fallen state of mankind and the fruit of it, death, destruction, sorrow etc. So as a Christian historian when things that are associated with death, destruction and, sorrow take place they are not surprised. A secular historian would say “if there was a God then why does he allow bad things to happen”. A Christian historian understand the nature of God and, why bad things happen to people according to scripture. A Christian historian see smaller events as part of a much bigger historical event that took place years ago. Like for example, wars across the world. In Matthew 24:6, Jesus stated that there will be wars and rumors of wars and to not be alarmed because these things must happen however, the end is yet to come. So as a Christian historian they know that there will be wars and that scripture will be fulfilled. They also know that the reason behind wars is due to the sinful nature of man. A secular historian will say that we have wars for political reasons. That may be try too however, according to scripture wars must come before the end come.
Christian historians cannot determine what God intended in particular events. However, Christian historians know that whatever it was, it was part of a much bigger plan. A Christian historian should use the word of God as a filter through the perspective of God. They must see things from the perspective of God.[1] Although, as humans they are limited as to what they can understand. Scriptures also spoke of that. Scripture stated that God's ways are higher than our ways. So, there are some things or events that Christian historians may never understand.
However, they know that it was either fruit from the fallen nature of man or the fruit from the resurrected Jesus. Even when those events do not add up scripture is still being fulfilled.
It is important to understand these things to have a better understanding of history itself. After all God is the creator of history. It is very important for Christian historians to walk with God since he is the controller of past events.
